Brandy Glasses
Nothing says sophisticated refinement like the image of brandy being swirled lazily in a snifter or brandy glass. Few will argue against the cool factor bestowed by brandy glasses, but there's a lot of reasoning that went into their design.
The classic shape of the brandy glass (which should only have about 60-90 mls in it) gives a large surface area to the spirit, which allows evaporation and thus a more pronounced aroma, and that aroma can't easily escape the snifter's narrow top. The short stem and rounded bottom makes it easy to cup the brandy glass so that your hand warms the liquor, too, which brings out the brandy's rich flavours. So, you can see that brandy glasses manage to pull off the rare trick of combining the very cool and the genuinely clever... not enough Os in smooooooooth.
